Remember Patrick Vallencant extreme skier

Patrick Vallencant

One trailblazer in skiing was the frenchman Patrick Vallencant(RIP) who was one of the pioneers in extreme skiing. I went to his off piste ski school in Chamonix in the early 80´s. He was a very happy and joyful skier with an unreal fluidity and snow adaption. When he increased speed his stance was extremely low. He was as happy as in the picture all the time despite some very bad students(me) with skis stiff as planks (under the snow 98% of the time).  I wonder what he could have done with todays skis, I think he skied on dynastar GS skis. In those days there werent any good skis for fast off piste, some people even skied on DH skis to get the footprint required. Pierre Tardivel is his counterpart today in France I think.

Me(photographer) and two friends in Norway , notice the fancy equipment , We pioneered helmets ! the first helmet is a car helmet for family use from the 60s, very swedish, we use lifejackets when it rains. Click to enlarge

guns4toys Homemade Wood Gas Burner-Stove Videoclip

will absolutely try to build one of these, I think it uses secondary burn of the emmision gases which
is very efficient. Thanks for the video !

Turned out very good , air exiting the upper ring of holes really ignite the gases a second time as can be seen below. The upper can is just to support the frying pan and let the exhaust out.

The web is fantastic: Catching flies

I have been irritated by one single fly, been trying to swap it for two days half heartedly. As usual the answers are on the Web.

Skiing Lyngen Norway

First a big thanks to swedish pioneer Åke Hedlund who helped us find this area. Pictures above are from the same run Forholttind N side, taken at different occasions. We skied this in the 80's early 90s 3 times , beware of avalanches and falling rocks, the rock isnt that solid. 1200 m skiable 30-45 degrees

Ellendaltind, skied the marked culoir 30-40 degrees, beware of huge amounts of wind driven snow on top

Tube amplifiers

This amp has gone to tube heaven after donating some organs. All the grey iron is from an old Bofors mobile artillery guidance unit found in a scrap yard. A gigantic output of 10 watts was achieved. Everything below the top box is the PSU with regulation in the middle.
After this I built an even heavier one that was impossible to move from the building site (kitchen) it sounded wonderful using two Transmitter tubes in SE class A. Unfortunately it only worked for 2 hours due to some glued parts that fell apart due to heat , that was when I quit building amps. I am still married to my wife despite these projects.
